Morley Stanwood Community Schools is proud to announce that the Board of Education has selected James Nelson as the district’s next superintendent. “Mr. Nelson is a proven and experienced educational leader whose passion for public education and student focus will continue the district’s tradition of high expectations and promoting the success of all students,” said Board President Emily Bongard. “The board is confident that Mr. Nelson’s vision will continue to empower staff and students to learn, lead, and thrive.” Mr. Nelson brings a wealth of experience in education, having served in leadership roles at both Morley Stanwood Community Schools and Newaygo Public Schools. He also spent years in the classroom at Shepherd Public Schools as both a physical education and social studies teacher. The Board’s decision followed an inclusive process that included valuable input from staff, parents, and community members through surveys and candidate interviews. Morley Stanwood Community Schools appreciates everyone who participated and supported the process. Contract negotiations are currently underway, with Mr. Nelson expected to officially assume the superintendent position on July 1, 2026.
